Selecting an Agent to Represent You

The decision to sell your home is one of the most important financial decisions you may make, yet many times sellers don’t take the time to find the real estate agent best suited to their needs.  Agents are often chosen solely on an ad in the newspaper, from a sign hanging in a yard or because they offer you a “discount.”

Certainly one of the best ways to find an agent is to ask for a recommendation from someone you trust.   If your friends or family don’t have someone that would suggest then you should plan on interviewing three agents to make sure you find someone you are comfortable with.  Ask all of them the same questions so you can compare answers.   Ask them to tell you about the current market conditions and then ask them to tell you about who they are and what makes them different from their competitors. Ask why you should choose them.

Find out if they offer different options for you to choose from for selling your home?  Are those options spelled out for you in an easy to understand format?  Can you build a custom plan that meets for your needs?

Remember the person you select is selling what could be your largest financial asset and you need to be to have just is much confidence in them to protect your interests as you would your banker, accountant or financial advisor.
